Download and review the PFI medical form. To become an active PFI Professional, the PFI Medical Form must be signed by a physician—even if you answer "No" to all questions.

Courses are run consecutively over 12 days and include everything from Advanced Freediver, Supervisor Freediver, Assistant Freediver Instructor, and Freediver Instructor programs.


  • Minimum age of 21 years

  • PFI Intermediate Freediver certification or higher or equivalent from a recognized agency with PFI Freediver Crossover Exam

  • Be in good medical and physical condition and with above average swimming skills

  • Physician signature is required on PFI medical form to become an active PFI instructor

Qualification of graduates

Upon successful completion of PFI Freediver Instructor, graduates may participate as a lead Instructor in both PFI and self-organized PFI freediving courses and activities. You'll be able to teach the following programs: Safe Buddy, Snorkeler, Freediver, and related coaching and open line sessions.

What to Bring

For this course, each diver is responsible for bringing his or her own equipment:

• Low volume mask
• Snorkel
• Full wetsuit (3mm for warm water locations; 5-7mm for cold water locations)
• Rubber weight belt and small number weights
• Freediving bi-fins (monofins can be used in the Advanced Course)
• Freediving computer plus an additional waterproof timing device
• Lanyard
• PFI Issued Course Manuals



The PFI Advanced Pro Package is $2095.
PFI Professional Membership and Witherspoon & Associates Professional liability insurance are an extra charge for those interested in teaching freediving professionally after receiving Assistant Instructor certification.
