2006 - Training, Records & Competition
For the third consecutive year the Performance Freediving
International Team are in the beautiful Cayman
Islands . Not only will they be pushing the limits
of human capabilities, but they'll also be
expanding the knowledge of sciences understanding of
this sport and recreation. Check out our daily updates.
Along with this, TEAM PFI will also be hosting the '1st PFI Invitational Competition' in conjunction with the United
States Apnea Association (USAA) and the Canadian
Association of Freediving and Apnea (CAFA).
Recreational and competitive freediver training will also be made available for those interested in learning the many skills and techniques employed by recreational, competitive and professional freedivers across the world.

March 29 th through April 12th will see
Mandy-Rae Cruickshank (Canada), Martin Stepanek (Czech Republic) and Dr.
George 'Doc' Lopez (USA) from the Performance Freediving Team training
during this time. Other PFI members may also train during this time
utilizing the below described facilities. |
| What: |
15 days, half day training (morning or afternoon) , on
a Newton 42 with captain, freediver deco station and complete first
aid/O2 with medic provided. A counter balance system will be
the secondary safety system with intermittent rebreather divers as primary safety
using diver assisted freediver retrieval systems . 'PFI Safety
Protocols for Competitions and Records' will be followed. |

$75US per boat training session and only covers self-propelled disciplines. Lanyards
required. |
PFI WORLD RECORD ATTEMPTS April 1st - 7th
Will see PFI Team Members making world record
attempts. LIVE STREAMING VIDEO, spectator and
media boats provided.
PFI BASIC to ADVANCED FREEDIVER CLINIC April 9th - 12th
PFI Team Members and associate instructors will be
running Basic , Intermediate and Advanced Freediver
programs. Cobalt Coast/Divetech the staging
area with boat diving sessions provided. Registration

JUDGE IN LEARNING COURSE
During the Grand Cayman event in March and early April there will be a Judge in Learning Course offered in conjunction with the PFI Clinic. Dates will be determined shortly (Likely April 9 & 10). Likely the first two days of the clinic so that those wishing to compete in the competition will have two days left to train. The course is open to any reasonably competent freediver. 1st PFI Invitational Competition April 1 2 th - 16th
This PFI Invitational Competition will be held in Cayman for PFI graduates and members. Disciplines will cover the core disciplines of static and dynamic along with constant weight and free immersion / constant no-fins with a couple 'fun' non-core disciplines in the afternoons .
Competition run in conjunction with USAA and CAFA and core disciplines will qualify for AIDA International Ranking.

$495US and includes CAFA/USAA sanctioning fee, four
days open water competition with boat, three days
pool competition, evening talks and seminars and

SCIENCE OF FREEDIVING Dr. Ralph Potkin and Dr. Karl Huggins along with other researchers will be attending the weeks prior to the record attempts doing testing and research on PFI Team members.
This will bring several of the worlds top researchers in their fields to Cayman and testing may involve Doppler bubble detection, pre and post dive venous blood analysis, chest x-rays, pulmonary function and other tests.
PFI members training with the PFI team may be asked to participate as well, although not mandatory.

Divetech has two diving locations with Cobalt Coast being the main location. A second facility near the Turtle Farm on north-west point is a fantastic shore diving location.
