Day 5 - Constant again and Danny's the man!

Now we've hooked up with a friend from Off The Wall Divers, Danny Kupkowski who's going to be the main stay of our boat charters throughout our training and into the records. Danny's been our evac boat for every Cayman PFD Team record from Brett's 81m constant to Mandy's 136m no-limits and Martin's 90m free immersion world record. Again, we're off Public Beach and a quick couple minute cruise into the blue. Today Marnie Laing is also with us as crew on the boat. Marnie's a good friend and AIDA judge and has been a mainstay of many of our world record attempts. I've enjoyed the privilege of my best trimix experiences with her to 152m / 500' in the past and good friends make great training :>)

Martin ascending from a dive Again, the warm-up routine starts and all goes according to plan except that Martin does a second 15m / 3:00 free immersion. The reflex is a little lazy today. Soon I'm starting the countdown once more and Martin is off for a 75m / 246' constant ballast target dive. His hands are on his nose again and a short minute later I leave the surface to safety him at 25m / 82' -- with Tony hovering like a crazed paparazzi :>) You have to see the bedroom, Tony's got a full editing studio set up and he'll be working like a madman to edit down the day's footage so you can enjoy it only a few hours later. I hand signal Martin "25m" to let him know where I've met him. Right now I'm a little rusty and working too hard to get proper depths, but in a couple more training days I'll be prepared to meet Mandy and Martin consistently at 30m so they know where they are in the dive. Martin's looking great, but again there's a disappointed look. He breaches the surface, takes three hook breaths and three cleansing breaths and is swearing about his ear again. Guess it wasn't that bad if he could take the time to swear about it after making a deeper than target 77m / 253' in 2:22. To finish we make a quick photo dive to 20m / 66' and Martin is happy that even though it's a shallow one the ear works great.

Marnie Laing We head back into shore and agree to meet Danny and Marnie on Sunday at West Bay dock. Saturday we'll be picking up Mandy and Doc from the airport and taking them back to Divetech for some shore acclimatization and scooter fun. :>)

Freediving or breath-hold diving is a type of advanced snorkeling and water adventure that allows us to experience the sights, sounds and challenges of the most natural of underwater experiences.

Human evolution and development has ingrained us with an underwater potential the same as our marine cousins, whales, seals and dolphins.

Without the use of underwater breathing apparatus, freedivers on a single breath of air can explore the underwater realm for minutes at a time with relative comfort.

Freediving is about the comfort and exploration of the ocean realm for recreation, spearfishing, competition or personal discovery.

For over 7 years, Performance Freediving has helped enthusiastic men, women and youth to explore the underwater world with expert training, support and products from the world's top freedivers.

PFI is North America's longest running Freediving training agency having taught over 2300 students to dive deeper, longer, and safer. Let us show you how!
