Day 2 - Acclimatization from shore

On the 2nd we go to Divetech on the northwest point of Grand Cayman for some easy shore diving and acclimatization. No boat performance target type dives yet. This is just to wake up the diving reflex with some free immersion hangs in relatively shallow depths. We grab a Dacor Seasprint scooter and head out to the mini-wall in 15m / 50' of water and start with some easy pull downs. After about 20 minutes we scooter out to the deeper reef to a submerged mooring in around 22m / 70' of water. Here the water clears up. The wind and waves closer to shore make the shallow wall a little murky with about 15m / 50' viz.

On the outer reef we play around with some more pull downs to depth, hit the bottom, relax, turn, look at the surface and pull back up with total times at around 3-4 minutes. It's incredible as the viz is great: you can watch your partners on the surface as they are silhouetted by the sun's rays dancing about them. Martin does some no-fins constant practice here as well, while I scooter off to check the deep wall and mooring. IT LOOKS GREAT !!!!!

Then we scooter out, towing our float and line with Martin hanging onto my feet. Tony's the super trooper, keeping up to us and busily taking video of the whole day. We arrive at the deep reef where another submerged mooring is anchored in around 45m / 150' off reef and easily visible from the surface. We do some mid-range pull downs and within a couple are doing some easy and slow touch'n go's at the bottom. We also use the scooter to hit depth and take a short tour around 50m / 165'. This is the rated depth of these scooters, keeping in mind they're kind of old and abused :>)

Freediving or breath-hold diving is a type of advanced snorkeling and water adventure that allows us to experience the sights, sounds and challenges of the most natural of underwater experiences.

Human evolution and development has ingrained us with an underwater potential the same as our marine cousins, whales, seals and dolphins.

Without the use of underwater breathing apparatus, freedivers on a single breath of air can explore the underwater realm for minutes at a time with relative comfort.

Freediving is about the comfort and exploration of the ocean realm for recreation, spearfishing, competition or personal discovery.

For over 7 years, Performance Freediving has helped enthusiastic men, women and youth to explore the underwater world with expert training, support and products from the world's top freedivers.

PFI is North America's longest running Freediving training agency having taught over 2300 students to dive deeper, longer, and safer. Let us show you how!
