Open Water Sessions

For the open water training the group will be heading over to Catalina Island on the Sunday night. The first one or two sessions will be from shore at Casino point on Monday and the last session will be an offshore trip of boat on Tuesday morning.

In Catalina you will be staying at the Hermosa Hotel in Avalon (Booked through PFI). Students will share a room with 2 double beds.

Please note that the extra fees for boat training, hotel on Catalina and round trip ferry ride usually come to about $300 ( you will be emailed the exact cost a couple weeks before the course starts). This will need to be paid to PFI via cash on the Saturday of the course.

Equipment Requirements

  • Mask, fins and snorkel – Preferably low volume mask and long blade fins or mono fin.
  • Wetsuit with gloves and boots – 5mm freediving suit is required for pool and ocean sessions. Good freediving suit with attached hood is perfect. You will also need socks and gloves of at least 3mm in thickness.
  • Weights and weight belt – Having an assortment of smaller weights to adjust for proper buoyancy is a must.
  • Depth and/or timing device – A waterproof watch at the very least, better yet a freediving computer is perfect.
    Check out general gear recommendations.

Don’t worry about lines, floats and those sorts of things, we’ll bring that. We also travel with an assortment of freediving computers for you to try out as well. Along with all of this we’ll video your clinic so you can review each day, your skills in the water as they improve.
