Racing Intro

Formula 3 Freediving (F3F), the underwater racing concept where Top Gun, meets Formula One, meets Freediving.

Who Participates in Formula 3 Freediving?

F3F is very much about the ‘life style’ of racing and freediving enthusiasts. Although the race is the main focus, it’s simply the conduit to personalities of each racing team and member; their histories and work life, how they train for races, what motivates them in racing and how the ‘gear-head’ has them striving to increase the functionality of their racing scooters.

Racers

F3F racers are accomplished freedivers having participated in a Performance Freediving Intermediate level programs or equivalent. However they are by no means world record athletes. The idea of F3F is to take away the pure physical/physiological of being a superior trained freediver and open it up to ‘good’ freedivers. Most importantly how are they as ‘pilots’ and how well do they understand race strategy? Thoroughly educated in the safety and techniques of freediving these racers employ breath-hold strategies to maximize their performance.

Track Officials

F3F Track Officials are also safeties and are assigned throughout the track to insure the rules of the race are followed, gates are navigated, infractions are noted and safety is maintained should any racers experience a hypoxic near or full blackout. All Track Officials are trained freedivers in the aspects of ‘safety & problem management’.

Race Support Staff

F3F Race Support Staff perform a multitude of diving and non-diving jobs. Jobs such as track set-up and maintenance, boat support, media relations, etc…

Race Commissioners

F3F Race Commissioners are the representative governing body members who officiate the track set-up, racing rules, oversee team protests and insure fair and accurate timing and team rankings. They are the jury during any race protests and have final say over all decision involved in the protocols, regulations and safety of the race.

Videographers/Photographers/Editors

These underwater media professionals cover all angles of the race to provide footage and photo for streaming video production. Both freediving and rebreather divers are employed to bring this live action event to life. Many will employ freediving as well as scuba as a means of getting into the middle of the action while ‘point-of-view’ cameras mounted to the propeller shroud give the true ‘in the action’ footage.

Sponsors/Partners

These companies, associations and individuals provide the financial as well as resource and local knowledge backing to turn each F3F Grand Prix into a successful race. Sponsors provide financial backing and cooperative exposure and resources while partners provide logistical and material services such as boats, gas fills, hotel and conference areas and other non-cash resources.

Race Spectators

Spectators are both at the site of the race in-water on scuba and snorkeling watching ‘LIVE’ as the race happens. As well an online streaming video audience is targeted with advertising campaigns to capture and bring ‘eye-balls’ to the sponsor and partners of each Grand Prix.
