In F3F racing six teams go head-to-head in three styles of races. Each team is comprised of three pilots. Some styles of race timed while others are ‘first through the gate’ head-to-head.
Straight Line – Drag Race
This race is a 50m out and back race navigating 2m X 2m gates set-up in a slalom style. The race is timed and starts when the ‘start/end gate’ is reached, the racer navigates the start plus 10 other gates, upon reaching the 50m gate turns around and navigates them back to the start/end gate. The total out and back is timed. Each team member completes the course three times with their fastest time being added to their team mates fastest times. Team with the fastest combined time is
ranked and awarded points accordingly.
Lap Race – Head-to-Head
This race employs a reef feature that is set-up in a thirty lap race. All teams start in head-to-head fashion and navigate gates at varying depths, distances and profiles from each other. Each team member completes one lap then passes their scooter to the next team member until each member has completed 10 laps each. Depth of this race is in the 18m/60ft zone maximum and one lap should take no longer than 1min 30sec.
Rally Race – Head-to-Head
This race finds the most distinguishing features of a wider reef area. Gates are set-up to take advantage of these features. Start and race is head-to-head with each racer completing the course and then passing the scooter to their next team member. ‘first through the gate’ being the winner. Features include wrecks, overhangs, arches, swim throughs, sand flats and all means of natural obstacles.
