Green Team

Trisha Stovel

Trisha is a scuba diving instructor, currently working full time in the diving industry.

She was introduced to freediving by taking a course with Performance Freediving International in September 2009, and was instantly drawn to the lifestyle.

Deja Blue II is her first competition and she’s excited to get out there!

Jen Balfour

Jen Balfour started as an ‘advanced snorkeler’ on family vacations to Hawai’i, and began freediving recreationally in 2008 after taking PFI’s Intermediate Course. Jen’s main interest is underwater photography, so training with PFI and the Vancouver Apneist Club has improved her bottom time and comfort levels so that she can pursue this interest. This will be Jen’s second Cayman competition and she’s looking forward to competing with friends new and old.

Rodrigo Rodriguez-Novas

Growing up in Venezuela, Rodrigo was introduced to the sport by his grandfather as early as his memory goes back to, and they would practice it just about every weekend. According to Rodrigo, he learned some of life’s most valuable lessons also through that coaching and mentoring in the context of the ocean and freediving. It was in 2006 when he took his first formal training with PFI Intermediate Course, and just completed the refresher course in January 2011 which served him to go to the next level by providing him the proper set of techniques, as well as additional knowledge on the psychological and physiological aspects of the sport as well as reinforced safety training which make him feel more comfortable pursuing new records. Rodrigo works in the Financial Services industry and continues to practice the sport as a mean to stay in shape not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. “Diving as deep as i can in one breath-hold helps me to find peace and truly disconnect from the daily routine”

This will be Rodrigo’s first time in the competition where he simply seeks to make personal bests and make his grandfather proud
