Junko Kitahama
Junko Kitahama is 15-time National Record holder. She achieved 6 titles for all disciplines, CWT, CNF, FI, DYN, DNF, and STA in Japan. It is only her achievement for taking 6 discipline titles in the country. She started freediving in 2003 and have been a member of National Team since 2004. She was a head coach of Women National Team in 2010, and got Gold medals for the team. Also, she had an illness and took a brain surgery twice in 2009 and 2010. Now she completely cured, and then, becomes a full-time freediver in 2011. She will try to make new records in Cayman.
Ashleigh Baird
I am a 26 year old Forida native, currently living in Tampa and finishing up my Masters in Architecture at the University of South Florida. I have always had a passion for being in the water, and for many years my family and I spent weekends in Key Largo, and took several family trips throughout the Carribean islands. These experiences only deepened my love for the water, and at an early age my biggest dream was to be able to hold my breath for 3 WHOLE minutes. When I learned that freediving was an actual sport, I set out to learn how to do it. Soon I discovered Performance Freediving and immediately signed up for the Intermediate course. I was so impressed by the results that 6 months later I was in Hawaii taking PFI’s Advanced course. Currently, my personal best depth is 125 feet (constant balast), with a 4 minute static, and I absolutely can’t wait to see how much further I can go!
Jake Bricker
Jake comes to Cayman from the cold water of Northern California. As a PFI instructor and lifetime freediver he sees competition as the next step towards becoming a more complete waterman. He is thrilled about the opportunity to compete in a sport that has been a recreation for so long, particularly in a field as accomplished as this. His first PFI experience was in 2009 and while he attended the Cayman event last year, this is his first time competing. “After witnessing the safety and camaraderie during the 2010 event I am very excited for the fun and accomplishments to come at Deja Blue II.”
